Management Team Bargaining Update September 10 2021
We would like to welcome everyone back to campus and thank you for navigating start-up in these challenging times. While College staff and students were busy launching the term, the College management team and the OPSEU CAAT A bargaining team met to continue negotiations.
Between bargaining sessions, we have reviewed the language in the Union’s proposals. We have compared them to previous rounds of bargaining, calculated how the changes would affect College operations, and posed several questions seeking to understand the Union's rationale. We hope the Union will respond to these questions.
We have identified and proposed modest changes to the collective agreement that address concerns that both parties likely share. We have also identified Union demands we are unable to consider for fiscal, operational, or legislative reasons.
To secure stability for our students and staff, we want to come to an agreement before the collective agreement expires on September 30th. We have suggested that removing the non-starters from the table will likely foster more productive discussions and may be the most constructive way forward.
The management team remains dedicated to engaging in informed dialogue and reaching a collective agreement. We look forward to further negotiations next week.
